Singers, Dancers, Musicians Galore

Chantilly High’s Jazz & Pizzazz isn’t just any musical-entertainment show. It’s a high-octane, raise-the-roof extravaganza featuring award-winning singers and dancers in colorful and energetic spectacle. This year’s event, the 27th annual, runs Wednesday-Saturday, May 29, 30 and 31 and June 1, at 7 p.m. Tickets are $10 at www.ChantillyChoral.org. They’re also available at the door, but Friday and Saturday nights usually sell out, so advance purchases are recommended for those shows.

Everyone likes getting a raise, but the City of Fairfax’s hard-working mayor and City Council members haven’t received one since 1982 – some 33 years ago. So on Sept. 29, they approved a pay hike for the governing body that will succeed them in the May 2016 election.

New and exciting projects are on the horizon in the Sully District. Below are some of them: COMMERCIAL DEVELOPMENT Inova Fair Oaks Hospital Currently, many local residents needing radiation or other oncology treatments go to Inova Fairfax Hospital to receive them. But a new, fourth, medical office building on the Inova Fair Oaks Hospital campus would bring these services closer to home. Inova Fair Oaks plans to construct that building, plus more parking and a new entrance from Rugby Road. Hospital representatives hope to have the medical office building completed and occupied by the end of 2013.

Few communities are lucky enough to have a Civil War museum in their midst; Centreville is one of them.
Why Change Is Needed
Fairfax High has a building capacity of 2,412 students and a current enrollment of 2,659 — meaning a 110-percent building utilization. But if nothing changes, it’s projected to have 3,011 student bodies by the 2017-18 school year and a 125-percent building utilization.
Centreville/Chantilly: ‘Long Time Coming, But Worth the Wait’
Celebrating Stringfellow Road’s reconstruction.
As a major conduit between Chantilly and Centreville, Stringfellow Road is heavily used by area residents. It’s also the gateway to four elementary schools, a middle school and a high school, a regional library, two parks, several athletic fields, churches, shopping centers and highly populated neighborhoods.

Update on Local Road Projects
Reviewing Stringfellow, Route 50 and two bridges.
When Supervisor Michael R. Frey (R-Sully) addressed the Sully District Council of Citizens Associations on June 25, he also provided an update on local road projects. A Fairfax County transportation bond was discussed, as well. “There will be a transportation bond this year, probably for $100 million,” he said. “About 15 or 16 million will be for roadway projects and 84 or 85 million will be for pedestrian and walkway projects. That includes bike lanes and bike-way improvements, and that’s a huge shift. We used to do these bonds for roads and Metro.”
Apartments, Retail Planned: Kamp Washington Triangle

It’s still a work in progress, but Novus Fairfax Gateway LLC hopes to transform part of the Kamp Washington triangle between Fairfax Boulevard and Lee Highway into a modern, community-serving, mixed-use project.
